Will Alan Ritchson's 'War Machine' Get a Sequel? Here’s What We Know
Alan Ritchson's Netflix sci-fi action hit War Machine may be getting a sequel, but Lionsgate isn't ready to make it official just yet. The film, directed by Patrick Hughes, became the most-watched Netflix title of 2026, pulling in a massive 125.2 million views in roughly two months—a number that shocked even industry insiders.
War Machine blends alien invasion with survival horror, earning a solid 69% on Rotten Tomatoes and keeping audiences hooked for weeks on the top 10 charts. Fans have been hungry for more ever since.
The Official Word from Lionsgate
However, in a recent Business Insider report, Lionsgate's film head Adam Fogelson confirmed the studio "isn't ready to officially announce a sequel." He did add, though, that if a sequel happens, "Netflix has the opportunity to again have it"—meaning fans won't need a theater ticket to catch the next chapter.
Fogelson also noted he has zero regrets about skipping theaters for a straight-to-streaming release. Given the marketing costs of a worldwide theatrical run, Netflix clearly worked in Lionsgate's favor. ### The 'Predator' Strategy?
He even compared the strategy to Disney's Predator franchise—Prey launched on streaming, Killers of Killers followed, and then Predator: Badlands went theatrical.
So a similar path for War Machine isn't out of the question. A third installment could eventually land in cinemas—but first, we need that sequel greenlit.
