John Wick Is Back on Top: Ballerina Hits #1 on Streaming While Caine Spin-Off Officially Starts Filming

Let's be honest — nobody expected the John Wick franchise to keep getting bigger. But here we are in 2026, and this franchise just refuses to quit. Two massive pieces of news dropped recently, and if you're a John Wick fan, you're going to want to sit down for this one.

First things first — Ballerina, the Ana de Armas-led spin-off that also brought back Keanu Reeves as the one and only Baba Yaga, has officially hit #1 on Prime Video globally. Now, if you remember, this film had a pretty rough time at the box office. It earned around $140 million worldwide against a $90 million budget, which left it about $40 million short of breaking even. Critics and fans actually loved it — most people agreed it was just as good as the mainline John Wick movies — but for whatever reason, audiences didn't rush to theaters. Streaming, though? That's a completely different story. The film is now sitting comfortably in Prime Video's global top 10, which tells you everything you need to know about its actual popularity.

Now here's the part that really has people excited — the new spin-off, Caine, has officially started filming. If you watched John Wick: Chapter 4, you already know Donnie Yen's character Caine was one of the best parts of that film. Well, Donnie Yen is back — and this time he's not just starring, he's also producing. Alongside him, Rina Sawayama is returning as Akira, her character from Chapter 4. And just recently, it was confirmed that Dacre Montgomery — best known as Billy from Stranger Things — has joined the cast in an undisclosed role. That's a seriously solid lineup.

Plot details are being kept completely under wraps for now, which honestly just makes the anticipation even worse (in the best way). What we do know is that if everything goes smoothly, Caine could be hitting theaters as early as next year. Personally, I think this one has serious potential. Donnie Yen is a martial arts legend, Caine was already a fan-favorite character, and the addition of Dacre Montgomery adds an interesting wildcard element to the mix.

The John Wick universe started as one movie about a guy who was really upset about his dog. Now it's a full-blown franchise with spin-offs, a TV series on Peacock (which, yes, got cancelled after one season — let's not talk about that), and now multiple films in development. Whatever they're doing, it's clearly working.

So here's my question for you — are you excited for Caine? Do you think Donnie Yen can carry his own action franchise the same way Keanu Reeves carried John Wick? Let me know in the comments — I'd genuinely love to hear what you think.
